More Tough Choices for Breast Cancer Screening
"Should a woman have a preventive mastectomy if her lifetime breast cancer risk is 25 percent compared to the average woman’s risk of 12 percent?" The risk percentage of breast cancer by mutations of the known genes BRCA1 and BRCA2 were high enough, one would say, to make informed choices of whether to undergo mastectomy. There are now new mutations that are not as high and make choices tough for women. Read about the study.

Molokheyya: Yummy & Nutritious Middle Eastern Stew
Molokhia (or Mulukheyya or in Arabic ملوخية) is a green leafy plant that means food of the kings or royal. English name for it is Jute leaves. It is common in the Middle East and is cooked into a stew usually with chicken and rice on the side. Lots of lemon, fried garlic and cilantro involved. The recent surgery of celebrity Angelina Jolie has has contributed to the increase in contralateral prophylactic mastectomy (CPM), or removal of the healthy breast (1). Jolie has a strong reason for undergoing such a drastic decision, carrying gene mutations of BCR1 and BCR2. What are the implications of an un-needed mastectomy?
