News: Increasing UK women fear needless mastectomies



Mammograms have always been a hot topic in breast cancer news. In the UK, there is a number of women who started shunning mammograms for fear of being over-diagnosed and thus going through needless mastectomies. Breast Cancer 'Genes' Affect Certain Races More



You remember Angelina Julie's announcement of having gone through double mastectomy based on a gene she is carrying? Genes and breast cancer are now more in the public conscious and awareness. One of the facts about the related genes, 'BRCA1 and BRCA2 is that they can be concentrated in a certain ethnicity or group of people. Women with Breast Cancer in One Breast Overestimate Second Breast Risk: Study

A study has revealed that a number of women who choose to go through a double mastectomy after having one breast cancer may be overestimating the risk of the second healthy breast and therefore doing an unneeded mastectomy to it.

Angelina Jolie's Double Mastectomy Due to Breast Cancer Gene

Well-known, Oscar-winning actress, Angelina Julie, Brad Pitt's 8-year partner, has just announced she has undergone a double preventive mastectomy--both breasts surgically removed--in April 2013. The reason is that she had learned she has BRCA1, a "gene that significantly raised her risk of breast cancer." (Watch videos and read more below).
