When a myth, a
strong belief about a certain topic, has been around for a long time it becomes
integrated in your brain as being the truth and will likely become "common
sense”. This may be acceptable for certain topics but not when it’s concerning
an individual’s health, especially for serious diseases such as Breast Cancer.
This is because myths about certain diseases that may prevent preventative measures
from taking place, becoming a serious matter. Cultural taboos and values play a
big role in introducing and shaping those myths, and can clearly differ from
one nation to another. It is therefore important to understand the difference
between truth and myth.
In this video the
most common aboriginal myths about Breast Cancer is presented, but also likely
reflects what most women of many other cultures might believe is true. What
